Day 52

After 4 days of sunshine, we have returned to cloudy weather with occasional light rain and gusty winds. Still on the West Highland Way, we are now at a small hotel in the middle of nowhere about two miles north of Bridge of Orchy on the edge of Rannoch Moor and surrounded by mountains which are all shrouded in cloud. If it sounds bleak let me tell you it is.

Just under 16 miles today; 19 miles planned for tomorrow.

My son, Chris, is due to join us this evening for the weekend.

Last night we met another end to end walker - Mark. He's walking north to south and planning a 1600 mile trip to be done in three stages over the next eighteen months to two years. We always knew that if we were to meet any other end to enders it was most likely on the West Highland Way because it's much easier this way than going through the Cairngorm Mountains. He seemed sane but you never know.

Bt the way, John, I do read the comments on this blog but only about every 5 to 7 days. That's because it's quite hard to navigate the internet using my Nokia phone so I usually only get to read the comments when I have access to a desktop pc (like today) so keep them coming!

  1. Well,it seems that this blog leads the way in providing an RFC update....you hear it here first...with some help from RFC....
Reading FC have confirmed that Graeme Murty, Marcus Hahnemann, Leroy Lita and Michael Duberry have all been released at the end of their contracts this summer.

Alan Bennett and young pros Gary Frewen, Scott Golbourne, Tom Hateley and Daniel Spence will also leave the Club.

Brynjar Gunnarsson has been offered a new one-year contract, while youngsters Oliver Bozanic, Scott Davies and Ben Hamer have also been offered new deals.

Director Of Football Nick Hammond told the Club's official website readingfc.co.uk, "The players who are leaving will all be sorely missed, but this week has seen the end of an era and it's time for the Club to move on.

"It was important for us to quickly resolve the issue of our out-of-contract players, and doing so allows us to now focus all our energies on recruiting the right person to become our new manager.

"Graeme Murty and Marcus Hahnemann were integral members of the team throughout Steve Coppell's managerial reign, and they will both forever hold a significant place in the Club's history.

"Graeme was a fantastic captain and the memories of him lifting the Championship trophy at the end of our promotion season will never be forgotten by any Reading fan.

"Marcus has been a tremendously consistent and reliable goalkeeper for many years, and has without doubt been one of our most important players in the last decade.

"In addition to their undoubted contribution on the pitch, Graeme and Marcus have also been terrific ambassadors for the Club in the local community and I know many supporters will be sorry to see them go.

"Leroy Lita's goals in his first season at the Club played a vital role in propelling us towards the Premier League, and Michael Duberry has been an important player for us in the last couple of years.

Well, There you have it guys...I'll do my best to keep the walkers and supporters up to speed
    Have a great weekend....

  2. Sounds like half of Britain is walking to Lands End or JOG. Do you all wear LEJOG badges for identification purposes?
